What happens when you combine a clear love of retro games and an awesome sense of humor with an open-world, old-school GTA approach in one package? Retro City Rampage is what happens, and it’s one game that I’ve been exceptionally excited for.
It releases today on almost all platforms, right next to massive titles like Dishonored and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
If you’re gaming on a PC, PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita, you can snag Retro City Rampage later this afternoon for $14.99. Gamers doing so with one of the PlayStation consoles will be able to take advantage of the Cross-Buy and Cross-Save programs. Buy it once, play it on both and use the same save file.
However, if you’re gaming on an Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii, you’ll need to wait until later this year to get your 8-bit-esque glory on with Retro City Rampage. No formal launch date has been announced for Microsoft’s or Nintendo’s consoles.
This project has been largely developed by one person, Brian Provinciano, with the help of a few great artists and musicians. Based on that fact alone, you should give it a look.
