A report surfaced in late September that suggested Apple placed a large order, too large for a sample, of carbon fiber. The company is allegedly interested in using carbon fiber in some of its products and is looking to do so in a “completely different way” than the material is typically used, according to a fresh report from Macotakara. The website said Apple has been researching the use of carbon fiber for the last three years, which suggests the material could play a major role in future iMacs or iOS-based products.

We certainly can’t complain much about the stunning aluminum build quality of Apple’s current Mac family, and the iPhone 5 is still a masterpiece of industrial design, but imagine how amazing a carbon fiber iPhone would be? It’s all just a rumor until we finally see something shipped from Apple, of course.
