If you own a Sony Xperia Tablet S, you need to check its serial number to see if it is one of the impacted units that has the water resistance problem.
It was announced late last week that some of the Sony Xperia Tablet S models released are having issues with the advertised water resistance. The issue is caused by gaps between the tablet’s case and the screen that allow water to seep into the device’s internal hardware.
Sony has now announced which serial numbers consumers need to look for to see if there’s is one of the impacted units.
Consumers are advised to take no action at this time and that more information will be available by the end of this month.
We are preparing a free inspection program for customers who have purchased this product, and we will repair, replace, or refund affected devices at no charge. We expect to post a program announcement, with details and instructions, on this page by the end of October 2012 (when parts are available). Please register your device at https://productregistration.sel.sony.com to receive updates regarding the program.
Only around 100,000 units have been sold thus far, and the company has ceased shipping any more at this time. Hopefully it will be an easy fix and Sony can get back to selling them soon.
