LG Nexus, Likely Based on the LG Optimus G, is Already Being Tested, Says Report

With the year rapidly coming to a close, we’re a bit overdue for a new Nexus smartphone, wouldn’t you say? It’s a safe bet the Note II will be great, and the One X+ sounds like a beast, but there are still plenty of folks holding out for a more up-to-date vanilla Android experience.

The bad news is that we aren’t sure who has dibs over manufacturing such a device. The good news is that there might be multiple Nexus handsets on the way. And according to two separate reports, one from LG is already being tested.

A source speaking to AndroidandMe claims to be in possession of an LG Nexus device that’s based on the company’s Optimus G. The device, the unnamed source said, does not have sharp corners, and contains a silver band around the display “like the iPhone 3G.” Additionally, the device is similar in size to the Galaxy Nexus, and contains Android 4.1.1, as expected.

Now that we have a small idea of what the handset might look like, a separate puzzle piece is shedding light on the device’s specs. According to Modaco, who allegedly confirmed these are legit, the upcoming LG Nexus will be quite the smartphone. It will allegedly include a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 1280 x 768 True-HD IPS display, support for wireless charging, an 8-megapixel camera and 8GB/16GB of storage. It will reportedly lack a microSD card slot and will not have a removable battery.

A mid-November launch date is tentatively scheduled, which gives credence to the device being out in testing. If such a handset is out in the wild, perhaps we’ll see more information surface in the coming weeks. We can only hope.
