Consumer Reports on Friday said Apple’s newest iPhone is the best one yet, concluding that the device is easily among the top smartphones available. Not the best, but one of the best. The publication praised the iPhone 5’s design, and also said the device’s 8-megapixel camera — excluding that of the Nokia 808 — is the best ever seen on a smartphone.
It’s a conclusion that has been voiced all across the industry over the past few weeks, even at TechnoBuffalo, and reaffirms that the millions who purchased the device on launch day got a pretty darn good product. However, CR, who has never been one to shy away from critically assessing Apple’s handset, admitted that Maps does fall short, but ultimately felt it was “competent enough.”
Overall, it’s another feather in Apple’s cap heading into the busy holiday period. There are obviously some excellent alternatives on the market, but if you’ve been questioning whether the iPhone 5 is a worthy upgrade, being brandished with a “best iPhone yet” stamp will definitely help nudge some decisions over the edge.
