Did you just get back from prom? Happy about how great you looked and want everyone to bask in your glow? You can now promote your posts on Facebook so that it’s bumped higher in your friend’s news feeds. And it only costs $7!

I’m pretty tired of Facebook, honestly, because I don’t like seeing all of the weird status updates my friends post. Do I care about the new photo you took of yourself in the mirror this morning? Absolutely not, but now you can pay Facebook so that it gets jammed in front of my face.

The feature, and I’m using that term loosely, has already existed in 20 countries and first launched in New Zealand last May.

Here’s Facebook’s explanation for why this feature needs to exist:

Every day, news feed delivers your posts to your friends. Sometimes a particular friend might not notice your post, especially if a lot of their friends have been posting recently and your story isn’t near the top of their feed.

Maybe I’m being too harsh. At least it’s good for when a friend or family member has a baby and posts new pictures. But if you’re a good friend you’d probably be looking for them anyway, right?

Ah, vanity, I sure do hope you help Facebook’s revenue stream.
