Will the iPad Go Widescreen to Match the iPhone 5? One Analyst Says So

Widescreen iPad

After using my iPhone 5 for several days, I picked up my iPad and pondered whether that might go widescreen in the future. I quickly dismissed the idea as silly and thought nothing else of it, but according to on industry analyst, it could actually happen.

Apple is said to be testing a widescreen iPad prototype with the same 16:9 aspect ratio that features on the new iPhone 5’s 4-inch display, according to Paul Mueller:

“I have talked to at least three people close to Apple who say that there are new iPad prototypes that have a 16:9 aspect ratio. They aren’t talking about the upcoming iPad mini either.”

But Mueller isn’t the only one reporting this information. The Examiner has also heard similar things from its own sources, and they note: “it appears that Apple is no longer against widescreen devices.”

I can see why Apple is warming to widescreen devices; the ability to play widescreen movies and videos on the iPhone 5’s display without those frustrating black bars is a blessing. But I’m not sure I like the idea of a widescreen iPad. I’ve tested widescreen Android tablets before, and it’s just not a form factor that feels good to me.

Maybe Apple will surprise us. How do you feel about a widescreen iPad?
