Ecco the Dolphin to Return? Creator in Talks With Sega

by Eric Frederiksen | September 25, 2012

ecco-dolphin-coverEcco the Dolphin creator Ed Annunziata announced via Twitter this weekend that there may be a new Ecco game in the future.

Annunziata said on Twitter that he’s meeting with Sega and the chances of a new Ecco game are increased a hundred times, in slightly fewer words.

According to Eurogamer, it seems the original composer, Spencer Nielsen, will be back as well.

The underwater adventure series released originally in 1993 and was well-received (according to my memory) for a unique take on platforming and its positive environmental message. Versions of the game have appeared since the original release on Sega CD and Game Gear of course, but also on the latest round of virtual consoles and even iOS.

The natural landscapes and bright colors would do well on current or next-gen consoles and would be a refreshing change from the brown and grey of so many modern games.

Now, if only Annunziata can bring back one of his other games: Chakan the Forever Man. Maybe I’m the only one thinking that.
