Sprint announced on Monday that its 4G LTE network is now available in 5 additional markets, which brings Sprint’s total 4G LTE tally to 24 cities. The new areas include Wichita, Topeka and Lawrence, Kansas; Waukegan-Lake County, Illinois; and Barnstable-Hyannis/Mid-Cape, Massachusetts. Sprint recently said that its 4G LTE network will be active in more than 100 markets “in the coming months.”
The expansion is good news for new 4G LTE smartphone owners, including those who recently purchased the new iPhone 5, but Sprint’s LTE reach is still far behind Verizon Wireless and AT&T. Sprint is apparently still on track to cover its entire 3G network with LTE by the end of next year, so we’re guessing these expansion announcements will be coming more frequently.
