Some Kindle Paperwhite Orders Getting Pushed Back to End of October

Amazon-Kindle-Paperwhite-FrontDemand has been so high for Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite that orders placed today aren’t expected to ship until Oct. 22 or later. The online retail company put a note up on the device’s order page to reflect overwhelming consumer appetite — Amazon also noted that preorders placed before today will ship on Oct. 1 as planned.

Announced earlier this month alongside the new Kindle Fires, Amazon’s Paperwhite is a clear rebuttal to Barnes & Noble’s Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. Amazon said the device’s screen is 25 percent bright than the previous version, has 62 percent more pixels (212 ppi) and gets 8 weeks of battery. The Paperwhite is $119 Wi-Fi only, or $179 for the 3G model.
