MobileMe-is-closed-move-to-icloudApple is cutting former MobileMe customers off from that sweet extra storage deal, sending out emails to confirm the news. As a transitional compromise to iCloud, the Cupertino company divvied out 20GB of storage to each MobileMe user on the house, warning that the complimentary gesture would cease once the old cloud feature met its doom.

Apple actually extended the offer for an additional three months, but now the free ride is ending on Sept. 30. Every iCloud users gets 5GB free, but MobileMe users got an extra 20GB — a $40/year value — at no cost.

Unless those using the free storage don’t need or want to keep the 20GB, they’ll have to start paying. Otherwise, “backups to iCloud will stop, and app will no longer be able to save documents to iCloud” that exceed the complimentary 5 GB.
