iPhone 5 Black Aluminum Reportedly Susceptible to Scratching

iphone-5-scratchingIf you’re looking to get the black iPhone 5 today (or, more likely, in a few weeks due to demand), you may want to consider purchasing a case with your device. Reports are beginning to surface that the handset’s anodized aluminum back is particularly susceptible to scratches, as first noted by Pocket-Lint in their review.

Additionally, one doltish compatriot felt it necessary to conduct an experiment on an in-store iPhone 5 unit by purposely scratching the back with a set of keys. Do you know what happened? It scratched. Duh.

It’ll be interesting to see how the device’s black finish holds up over time. There’s no doubt it looks slick, but seeing the slate wearing thin after minimal use is pretty discouraging, and may turn people away from purchasing that color. We’ll keep our eye out for further developments. Have you guys noticed anything on your black iPhone 5?
