It seems silly, I suppose, that the folks behind Halo 4 (343 Industries and Microsoft) would release an entire trailer dedicated to nothing but the sounds of the guns in the game; but, trust us when we say that things sound beautiful.
In fact, I went hands-on with Halo 4 during an event at this past E3. Part of my preview coverage focused on the great sounding weaponry. Here’s what I said back then:
…I wanted to point at 343 Industries’ work on the sound design of this new entry in Chief’s story. It’s brilliant…pay special attention to how good the guns sound. Really, they sound downright brutal. That’s new for this game.
Here we are, several months later, and I’m still jazzed about the raw sound of the combat in this new entry in the Halo series.
The thing about sound design, in my opinion, is that you never notice it unless it’s really good or really bad. Halo‘s guns have always sounded fine; but, now that 343 Industries has made them sound so spectacular, I’m noticing them.
If you can, pop on some headphones and listen in.
Halo 4 will launch for the Xbox 360 on November 6th of this year.
