Zone of the Enders HD and Okami HD Priced and Dated for America

Capcom and Konami want to wish me a super special Happy Birthday this year! Both of their upcoming HD ports will be released on October 30th, and both are games I’m planning on getting. Thanks a lot, you guys!

From the Capcom side of things, Okami HD will be released exclusively on through PSN for $19.99 with no options for a retail release. It will feature both the motion controls from the Wii port and the traditional PlayStation 2 controls. Okami is one of those Zelda clones which trumped the coinciding release of Nintendo’s popular series, stealing The Twilight Princess‘ thunder when award season came around.

It’s best known for its gorgeous cel-shaded graphic style which will look far more beautiful with the power of the PlayStation 3 pushing it. I’ve played it twice but never to completion. Joey, our Senior Gaming Editor, is a bigger fan.

On the other hand, Konami has finally put a date on their highly anticipated Zone of the Enders HD release as well as a $39.99 price tag. Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima created this love song to the anime mech genre in the early days of the PlayStation 2, but it never made it passed the second entry in the series and has always been regarded as “the game you get when you buy the latest Metal Gear Solid demo.” However, fans of giant robots duking it out in space should find a lot to love here if they haven’t given these forgotten gems a try.

Fittingly enough, the Zone of the Enders HD Collection will have a CD demo for Metal Gear Rising: Revegeance. It will also feature the European special edition of Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner, which most Americans have never played. It will be available for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Konami’s HD ports have been the most polarizing this generation. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is often sited as the best, but the Silent Hill HD Collection is regarded as the worst. At any rate, it’s nice to see these companies giving their cult hits the same treatment they gave their mainstay series. Hope more follow in line.
