Data Suggests iOS 6 Adoption Rate Went Through the Roof on Release Day

by Brandon Russell | September 20, 2012September 20, 2012 2:00 pm PST

iOS_6_Growth2As expected, adoption numbers were high following Apple’s release of iOS 6. The free update, which was originally announced in June, introduced a number of cool new features (and some not so cool ones, too). So just how many people downloaded Apple’s latest OS?

Perhaps we can measure its popularity in terms of Web traffic, which Chitika says peaked at 15 percent on Wednesday. In comparison, Jelly Bean topped out at 1.5 percent over a two month period. Apple clearly has a better method of rolling its mobile OS out to consumers. Google, on the other hand, distributes Android to manufacturers, which then customize the OS before carriers test it out.
