Foursquare Intros Awesome New “Explore” Widget for Android Users

I’m still addicted to Foursquare, even though a lot of my friends seemed to have slowed down on their updates. I actually use the Explore tab in New York City quite frequently, usually to find a new restaurant, and it works pretty well. Now, Foursquare has updated its Android application with a brand new Explore widget that I’m super excited about.

“If you’re always looking for a new coffee shop to try, the most perfectly charred coal oven pizza, or the best indie bookstore around, chances are you’ve made frequent use of the Explore tab in your foursquare app,” Foursquare said in a blog post Monday. “Now, we’ve made finding the best stuff nearby even easier, with a quick shortcut to the Explore tab in the app that you can put right on your Android home screen.”

Basically think of the widget as a quick-launch button for Foursquare’s Explore feature. It doesn’t add much more, but it definitely saves time when it comes to trying to find a specific food or type of hangout in a given area. I love that it shows tips from friends who have been nearby, first, too.
