When Asus released the PadFone, it didn’t really catch fire the way its Transformer lineup of tablets have. Sure, the idea was there, and the functionality was innovative — but going up against the more formidable names of Samsung, HTC and Apple meant it was always fighting an uphill battle. Plus, taking so long to deliver it to the market didn’t help.
Even still, it looks as though the company is ready to have another crack at the smartphone/tablet/laptop hybrid, as a few benchmark figures suggest Asus is preparing round two with several beefed up specs.
Rather than settling for a dual-core Snapdragon S4, the PadFone 2 (we’ll call it that until we know its official name) will allegedly come with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro. If true, that puts it on the same plain as Samsung’s Exynos 4 Quad.
Not much else is known about the device at this point — it may come equipped with 2GB RAM, however. We can only hope that when/if the PadFone 2 does get announced, Asus has the sense to gift consumers with Jelly Bean right out of the box.
