HP Handset Shows Up in Benchmarks Running Android, Codenamed Bender

benderHP’s plans to get back into the smartphone game might be further along than the company lead on. According to a GLBenchmark, the company is preparing a device, currently codenamed Bender, that could come equipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (what? No Jelly Bean?).

If an HP-branded handset does hit the market (this year? Next year?) it’ll come up against some pretty hefty competition. Although, if you read into CEO Meg Whitman’s comments from yesterday, the device could merely slot into emerging markets, and not necessarily as a play to compete against the big guns.

Other supposed specs include a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 1366×720 display. There’s not much else to discern from the benchmark, but just knowing that HP is possibly preparing an Android handset with the codename Bender is enough. Bring it HP.
