Why Doesn’t iPhone 5 Get Colors and Straps?

With iPhone announcements we usually see a trickle down of technology to iPod touches.  Case in point the iPhone 5’s 4-inch display, dual Wi-Fi, upgraded processors (A4 to A5 in the Touch’s case) made its way to the new iPod Touch.  Rarely have we seen the adoption of features work the other way around.

So why for does the iPod Touch get a strap and three additional colors where as the iPhone 5 is strapless and only available in the tried and true black and white? Both devices are of comparable weight and size. Why not?

Other than these differences both devices have some solid hardware updates (e.g., speed screen size, LTE), checkout the specs for the iPhone 5 and new iPod Touch.
