We originally expected Samsung to announce the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in tandem with the introduction of the Galaxy Note II at IFA two weeks ago, but that date came and went without nary an announcement. Now, in an interview with Crave, Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S III will receive the update next month. “The Android 4.1 operating system will be available on the Galaxy S3 from October,” a Samsung employee told Crave.
Unfortunately, we’re guessing this only applies to the international European version of the device, and not the U.S. model, because carriers here will need to approve the update independently. As such, we expect that we’ll see a staggered launch of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for U.S. Galaxy S III devices. We’re betting it still happens soon, but think it will probably happen later in October if that’s when it will land on European devices.
