Steam Big Picture Mode Beta Launches Today, Trailer Included

by Joey Davidson | September 10, 2012

The Steam Big Picture mode is launching today. This will let gamers bring the Steam marketplace and platform from Valve to their televisions.

Valve has elected to create a brand new User Interface for their platform that’s been tailored for use with a controller (though the video explains that folks who want to roll with a mouse and keyboard can do so freely). They’ve created a new typing system and a brand new browser for controller use. It looks snazzy.

What’s most exciting, however, is a dashboard that’s well designed and presented without a slop of ads. Really, how much more advertising is Microsoft going to squeeze into their user experience?

My gaming rig is literally five feet away from my basement’s large television. Steam Big Picture makes complete sense for me as all I need is a small HDMI cable and I’m ready to rock. How about you folks; will you give this beta a crack? It’s launching today.
