The popular photo sharing social network Instagram, which was recently purchased by Facebook, will soon launch for Windows Phone devices. It remains unclear exactly when Instagram will be available, but we’re willing to bet Microsoft will announce a whole slew of applications when it officially reveals brand new Windows Phone 8 handsets. That’s expected to take place sometime in October, possibly in-line with its Windows 8 debut.

The Verge independently confirmed that the app will soon be available after it originally thought it spotted the application running in a Nokia promotional video. The site later admitted that the app live tile could have been Vimeo and not Instagram.

I’m excited for the launch as a Windows Phone user myself. It’s not that I dig the app’s photo-tweaking capabilities, but rather because I enjoy viewing photos snapped by my friends and sharing my own unfiltered images with those who follow me (my username is robotodd if you want to follow along with my adventures). Hopefully Instagram for Windows Phone offers several of the new features that were recently introduced for iPhone and Android devices, including photo maps and infinite scrolling.
