The week of the iPhone 5 is finally here and last week was crammed with fresh announcements from Amazon, Nokia, Microsoft and others. Now, Toys R Us is getting in on the fall announcement fiasco. The toy retailer officially announced its Tabeo tablet today, a $149.99 Android tablet for children.

The device comes with 50 pre-installed applications that are aimed specifically at kids, and also has its own Tabeo App Store that provides content specifically targeted at children. It also has built-in security settings so that parents can monitor and block specific websites; if a child finds a specific site is blocked, he or she can request access via an email to his or her parents. Toys R Us vice president Troy Peterson said his company spent a lot of time working with parents and children alike to figure out what types of features to include in a tablet. The result is the Tabeo, with 4GB of storage, a microSD slot, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1GHz CPU and more.

The Tabeo will officially launch in time for the holiday season, on Oct. 21, and will be available exclusively from Toys R Us. Pre-orders start now.
