Ace Attorney 5 Confirmed For America, First Screenshots

AceAttorney5 (1)Capcom fans shouldn’t object to this! Not only was the next game in the popular Ace Attorney series announced for the 3DS in Japan, but Capcom has a batch of exciting new screenshots showing off the new look.

Fears arose for the future of the series when Capcom didn’t publish the second Ace Attorney Investigations game in America, but those fears are being put to rest thanks to the good word on PocketGamer. Capcom says they were “planning [to] release Gyakuten Saiban 5 (Ace Attorney 5) in the West.” They’ll “have more news soon.”

More importantly, the series is returning to its rightful protagonist, the one and only Phoenix Wright. Miles Edgeworth has bee a nice distraction for the last few years, but he’s always worked best when staring down his rival across the courtroom. Plus, we don’t have to deal with Apollo Justice and his stupid magic bracelet of truth ever again…hopefully.

It’ll be nice to jump back into the viewpoint of Phoenix. I hope that self-deprecating humor and wacky logic that defined the first three games is still intact. It’s hard to believe he hasn’t been put in the starring role of an original game since the Game Boy Advance. From the looks of things, Phoenix is now a little older and a little wiser, but hopefully age hasn’t put a dent in his charming personality.

The Fey family also looks like they are taking a much deserved retirement from the world of law. Phoenix’s long time sidekick and spiritual medium Maya Fey is absent from the pictures, and a new cute red-head seems to have taken her place.

The crisp sprites from the original games has been replaced by what looks like fully animated 3D models in the style of the 2D artwork, designed to jump right off the screen with the handheld’s 3D capabilities.

More to come, and one more reason to finally snag that 3DS. Oh dear…
