Sony has announced that its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will be coming to the Xperia U in “the next few weeks.”

The Japanese company released its Android 4.0 software for 2011 Xperia devices back in August, and now it appears to be addressing its early 2012 lineup — some of which is still stuck with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Sony confirmed the news on its official blog this week:

“The ICS rollout for Xperia U will kick-off within the next few weeks and rollout gradually – more information to follow soon!”

Unfortunately we don’t have a more specific date just yet, but as soon as we do, we’ll let you know. Sony has been pretty good at keeping to its timescales for previous Android releases, so you should see this one by the end of September.
