PayPal has issued a major update to its official Android application this morning, introducing an all-new look and lots of new features. It’s now easier than ever to keep on top of your balances, add credit cards to your PayPal account, and find local merchants from your Android smartphone.
The new user interface doesn’t look too dissimilar to that of PayPal’s latest iOS app. It scraps the familiar blue and white theme in favor of a darker brown and orange look. It’s not quite as clean in my opinion, but it does look a little more sophisticated. You’ll also recognize this look from the PayPal Here app — if you’ve ever used this on your Android device.
While we’re on the subject of PayPal Here, this update brings PayPal Here integration, and allows you to find local merchants that accept PayPal payments. For now, however, this feature is only available in the United States.
Another great feature added in this update is credit card scanning. Gone are the days when you had to enter your credit card details manually; now all you have to do is use your handset’s camera to scan your card and PayPal will enter all the details automatically.
Finally, this update promises enhanced support for handsets running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and some bug fixes. You can find it now in Google Play using the link below.
