While the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona games continue to dominate the sales charts every time they are released or ported to another console, the main Shin Megami Tensei series still has a few games up its sleeve. The latest in Atlus’ demonic RPG series will be released for the 3DS and is currently one of the most anticipated games for the handheld in Japan, even without any extensive footage being seen yet.
However, fans now have a trailer to pin their hopes to. Some fan used his handheld video camera to film the Shin Megami Tensei IV available trailer on the Devil Summoners: Soul Hackers 3DS port. It’s a remarkably high quality trailer for someone just filming a 3DS screen. Naturally, the 3D effects don’t show up on PCs, so there will be more to this footage when seen directly on a 3DS.
An ancient and seemingly abandoned castle, a cryptic cult of blue robed weirdos, technology clashing with the medieval setting, and what seems to be dimension jumping between ancient times and a modern city on the verge of destruction, all are new motifs of the long running series. There’s way too much Japanese at once for me to pick out anything specific amongst the chatter, but the last character to speak mentions that “This world is already finished.”
Another Shin Megami Tensei game, another chance to relive Armageddon. What else is new? Nothing else is know besides a vague release date in 2013 and the returning creative director from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne Maniacs Edition, Kazuyuki Yamai.
