Gears of War has a rich history of delivering quality mutliplayer experiences. Co-op campaigns, frantic team death-match battles and the revolutionary Horde Mode from Gears of War 2 have all established the IP has a leader in mutliplayer innovation.
But taking a close look at all of those options, they are all 100% team based, locked in co-op with a buddy or a group of friends. Whatever happened to a good ol’ battle royale for the hardened soldiers of Delta Squad?
Not to worry because developer People Can Fly is bringing a free-for-all death-match option for the next entry in the series, Gears of War: Judgement. The developers stated in Official Xbox Magazine that they will “blur the line between friend and foe,” meaning only human characters will be controllable in these fights to the last man.
COGs have often scuffled with Locusts in multiplayer mode, but never have they turned on each other in cold blooded murder.Tying your multiplayer into the campaign is a popular trend these days, as seen in Mass Effect 3. Could this set up be possibly leading towards a civil war amongst the human resistance in the campaign’s plot? Who knows?
No release date has been given for Gears of War: Judgement, but naturally it will be exclusive for the Xbox 360. Microsoft will be showing it off at PAX Prime this weekend as well, so more details to come soon.
