If you like your personal music players to be bigger than your phablet, check out Samsung’s new Galaxy Player 5.8, an Android-powered device with a whopping 5.8-inch display.
We had a feeling the device was on its way after its press image and specifications were leaked on August 17. And we’re pretty excited about it, largely because of that huge display, which makes the Galaxy Player 5.8 larger than the Galaxy Note. Samsung hasn’t mentioned the device’s resolution, however, which is supposed to be significantly less than that of the Note, according to those leaked specifications.
The Galaxy Player 5.8 also boasts Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a high-capacity 2,500 mAh battery, front-facing stereo speakers, and a front-facing VGA camera. It will be powered by Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, and of course, Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.
Unfortunately, Samsung’s press release doesn’t provide any other specifications, so we have no idea how good its rear-facing camera is, what kind of processor it’s packing, or what kind of storage options we can expect. The company has also kept pricing and release dates quiet.
According to that August 17 report, which appears to have been pretty accurate, the rear-facing camera should be a 3-megapixel one, and the processor will be a 1GHz dual-core chip. We’ll wait until Samsung’s confirmed these before we take them as fact, however. There’s a good chance we’ll hear more from IFA 2012 in Berlin later this month.
