Google+ began issuing vanity URLs to celebrities and major brands, such as Britney Spears and Delta, earlier this month and now it’s rolling out the feature to thousands of additional individuals and brands. What’s a vanity URL? It’s what will allow your Google+ address to read, simply, http://plus.google.com/+toddhaselton instead of http://plus.google.com/ followed by a random series of numbers.
The update isn’t available to everyone yet. “If you’re part of this expanded roll out, you’ll be prompted to claim your preapproved URL via email and/or when you visit your profile or page,” Google’s Saurabh Sharma said in a Google+ post. “We’re making these changes over the next few days, and we’ll be offering custom URLs to many more profiles and pages in the future.”
Sharma also said that the vanity URLs aren’t case sensitive. That means that http://plus.google.com/+ToddHaselton will work just as well as http://plus.google.com/+toddhaselton. Whenver I get the update, that is.
