Apple Holding Separate iPhone 5 and iPad Mini Events, Says Report

by Brandon Russell | August 23, 2012

tim-cook-wwdcRather than holding one enormous blowout on Sept. 12, Apple may be preparing two separates events for the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. A report from Daring Fireball’s John Gruber speculates that in order to give each product their respective share of the spotlight, the iPad Mini’s announcement could come during the first or second week of October.

It really sounds like Gruber is merely thinking aloud, until you consider the reply from The Loop’s Jim Darlymple. “Oh that Gruber is a smart fellow,” Darlymple said. According to 9to5Mac, Darlymple’s vague responses have historically “had some backing from Apple PR.”

We might be reading too much into Darlymple’s comment, we might not. Apple has yet to send out invites to any such events, so it’s still unclear what the company’s plans are. With so many big announcements coming during the first week of September (which isn’t all that far away), you can expect Apple to feed the media frenzy soon.
