2011 Sony Xperia Smartphones Now Receiving Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich

Sony Mobile has confirmed that Xperia smartphones released in 2011 should begin seeing their Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades this week. The company has now made the software available to operators around the world for testing, and it will be pushed out to customers once that is completed.

In a message on its blog, Sony wrote:

Starting from this week, Xperia arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia neo, Xperia neo V, Xperia mini, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Xperia ray will receive a new Ice Cream Sandwich software update that comes with bug fixes, performance tweaks and other improvements.

As for the Xperia mini pro, Xperia neo L and Live with Walkman, updates for these handsets are expected in “the next few weeks,” according to Sony.

If you’ve already upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, then you should be able to install the latest update over-the-air. For those still running Gingerbread, Sony explains that you’ll need to perform a tethered upgrade using your Mac or PC.
