Microsoft Banning All Apps From Windows Store That Use Metro in the Title

Microsoft’s attempt to purge itself of any Metro reference is filtering down to its Windows Store. A report on Wednesday claims the company is banning the term from all app titles to try and avoid trademark issues. That means apps like MetroTwit will be forced to rebrand its image and app, too.

Under a section in Microsoft’s new app naming guide for developers, the company instructs users not to use Metro moniker, saying that any app failing to do so will not be listed. The collateral damage for already existing apps is unfortunate, and will no doubt lead to a lot of frustrated developers. Perhaps MetroTwit could just switch over to ModernTwit, though that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
