Following in the footsteps of Microsoft’s beautifully reimagined email experience, the company has given SkyDrive, its cloud storage solution, a complete overhaul to match the look and feel of Windows 8. It looks fantastic, and once again shows that Microsoft has the design chops to take on Gmail and other competitors.
Among the “new, more modern web design,” SkyDrive on the browser is refining the experience by introducing instant search, a contextual toolbar, thumbnail multi-select, drag-and-drop organization and HTML sorting. But more importantly, Microsoft has updated the apps for Windows and OS X and said a SkyDrive for Android app is coming soon, along with a new SkyDrive API for developers to work their magic.
The new SkyDrive is yet another notch in Microsoft’s belt toward unifying its platforms with a new modern look and feel. The company said its Outlook.com preview attracted 10 million users, so folks are obviously responding well to the Redmond company’s new vision. It’ll be interesting to see, though, if Microsoft can sustain interest and continue to build off of its fantastic new approach.
