Right now, if you visit a friend’s Google+ page you’ll be greeted with a long string of numbers that represents that person. It’s not like Facebook where, for example, you can quickly type in Facebook.com/TechnoBuffalo to visit our page there. That’s all beginning to change, however.
TechCrunch noticed recently that Google+ is beginning to offer vanity URLs (otherwise known as custom URLs) to several of its registered users. You have to be a big brand or a celebrity it seems like, at this point, so I can’t register plus.google.com/ToddHaselton just yet. However, Britney Spears has her own page (https://plus.google.com/+britneyspears) as does Delta (https://plus.google.com/+Delta) and a few other major brands.
Unfortunately, nobody really knows when Google will begin allowing all of its registered users to apply for their own custom URL, but we’re guessing it’s going to happen sometime in the near future. Please save plus.google.com/+ToddHaselton for me. I’d appreciate it.
