Remember the alleged photos of Sony’s quad-core Xperia-branded Android tablet? We didn’t really get to learn much from them, except that Sony possibly has a tablet in the works that has a “folded” design, like its Tablet S device from last year. Now, fresh images of the tablet have surfaced thanks to the kind folks over on the xda-developers forums.

The Xperia Tablet apparently has a two-hue design, with a small back flap and a metal build. We can’t tell too much from the images other than that it looks fairly thin and has a clean, curved industrial design. There are volume and power buttons on the right-hand side of the tablet, an apparent camera on the back and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board.

The reported specs include an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor – the same chip used in ASUS’ Transformer tablets and the Nexus 7 – a 1-megapixel front-facing camera, an 8-megapixel camera and an alleged 9.4-inch 1280 x 800-pixel display. The Xperia Tablet is set for a September launch, apparently, and will start at $449.99 with the 16GB version.

Unless this bad boy launches with Jelly Bean or much more compelling specs, we’d probably steer you to the Nexus 7. You can buy it now, it offers Jelly Bean, and it costs a fraction of the price. We’re guessing Sony will take the wraps off of this during the IFA trade show in Berlin at the end of this month, which we’ll be attending, so stay tuned for more information.
