Could this be one of Nokia’s upcoming Windows Phone 8 devices? Spotted by WPDang on Chinese social network Sina Weibo, this particular device sports a bright yellow paint job unseen on any existing Lumia handset, and it is displaying the new Windows Phone start screen (note the tiny tiles).
That start screen suggests the handset is running either Windows Phone 7.8, or Windows Phone 8 — both of which are yet to make their public debut. If the handset is indeed genuine, it could be one of the new Lumia devices expected to get an unveiling at Nokia World in early September.
There is a chance, however, that this handset is merely an impressive fake. But The Verge notes that the device sports the same “proto.nokia.com” label seen on Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 prototypes prior to their launch. There’s also the fact that its yellow coloring was spotted on a Lumia 800 at a Microsoft event last year.
If this is a new Lumia, we’re likely to hear a lot more about it in just over a month’s time, when Nokia is expected to unveil its first Windows Phone 8 handset(s) at Nokia World.
