THQ might be turning a profit these days, but the struggling company is placing a lot of its future on its upcoming sequel Darksiders II. The original was a surprise hit in 2010, but it remains to be seen if the success can be carried over into a second title. With such a huge burden of success placed on a game without mutliplayer these days, THQ is going to make sure that you want to come back once the game is over.
After the game’s meaty action adventure quest, players can opt to tackle the New Game + mode which keeps your personalized customizations for the protagonist, Death, intact for another go round.
Or, they can take their hero into the Crucible, a daunting 100 floor game of survival. Gamers can opt out every five levels and keep their experience, but diving deeper and deeper into the chambers unlocks ever greater prizes for Death on his journey.
IGN has compiled a video diving into the fray and explaining the mode in more depth, as well as displaying the heavy handed combat.
Darksiders II will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PCs next week on the 14th. A Wii U version will be available around the system’s launch.
