Phantasy Star Online 2 is rolling in the positive press, and SEGA seems more than pleased with keeping this monster in motion. A month after its official launch, and the second update to the free-2-play game has already been confirmed and prepped to go for its August 8th release.

The latest update follows up the original “Soaring Crystal Dragon” patch, and will add an entirely new play area located on a floating continent called the “Land of Dragons.” A third and final patch is also in the works and is set to close out a summer of updates.

Between Game of Thrones, Dragon’s Dogma, Skyrim, the upcoming Hobbit movie, and now Phantasy Star Online 2, is it just me or are dragons coming back in a big way? Either way, it’s about time to exploit another cycle of fantasy creatures because vampires and zombies have become horribly stale these days. Maybe SEGA will keep it up and finally release a sequel to Panzer Dragoon Orta. Keep your fingers crossed.

Phantasy Star Online 2 can be downloaded and played now if you are impatient, but it is only available in Japanese. The English version will be available this coming January. The game has been wildly successful so far, raking in 730,000 registered users in just the first month. Fans have embraced it as the true follow-up to the beloved original.
