Apple Claims Samsung Copied iOS Graphics for TouchWiz

The vicious battle between Samsung and Apple raged on Monday when Apple shared evidence that suggests Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface copied its iOS icons.

The graphics in question are icons used for access to contacts, phone, pictures, music, settings and notes. Apple’s lawyers claim that these copycat icons were used with multiple Samsung devices, such as the DROID Charge, Epic 4G, Exhibit 4G, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy S II and the Captivate. No matter whose side you’re on in this matter, it’s pretty hard to deny the resemblance between Samsung and Apple’s icons.

What makes this evidence so critical is the fact that last week Apple’s lawyers uncovered internal Samsung documents that said the company felt the iPhone was “easy to copy.” That, combined with these obvious lookalike icons, seems to support Apple’s claim that Samsung copied the iPhone and, perhaps, parts of iOS. Of course, we’ll leave those judgements to the jury.

While the software appears very similar, Samsung also showed proof that it had iPhone-like designs in 2006 before the iPhone launched a year later.
