“There is no death to free you from this war.” Great line.
Sony Online Entertainment has delayed the beta release of their upcoming Free-to-Play MMOFPS Planetside 2. Originally planned to launch early in the week, SOE president John Smedley claims the delay was necessary because they “have some stuff they need to make sure is awesome.”
Planetside 2 features an entire planet succumbed to a never ending war between three factions battling for supremacy. Much like the original Planetside, factions team up in squads numbering in the hundreds and take out encamped enemy bases, essentially playing one huge camp of territories. Classes are varied and each plays an important role in securing way-points.
SOE has confirmed that Planetside 2 will follow a similar payment plan to that of League of Legends, the world’s most popular free-to-play game. Rather than purchase superior equipment to give an unfair advantage, in-game transactions will instead provide visual changes to characters and weapons based on how far the gamer has progressed.
Ultimately, very few free-to-play games look as “awesome” as Planetside 2. Check out the beta for PCs later this week.
