After what seems like forever, Hulu Plus has made its way to the Apple TV set top box.
According to a report from MacRumors this morning, Hulu Plus quietly appeared on Apple TV this morning. You may need to reboot your device for the channel to appear, but it is definitely there.
The addition of Hulu Plus is a major step forward for the device that Apple still refers to as a hobby despite selling 1.3 million of them in the latest quarter. Up until now many people looked at the set top box as just a way to watch Netflix, YouTube and whatever you purchased from iTunes. With the inclusion of Hulu Plus, the potential uses for Apple’s device have definitely gotten a shot in the arm, and that makes you wonder what else might be coming in the future. Amazon Prime Instant Video would be the next logical inclusion, but it seems somewhat unlikely as it also sells and rents videos, which would put it in direct competition with iTunes.
When it comes to set top streaming hardware, Apple TV has taken a beating from critics due to its lack of content choices – most have declared the Roku the clear winner in that arena – but if Apple is finally going to open up the platform a bit more, this could make things a tad more interesting.
