Nintendo is taking its sweet time in announcing the price for the Wii U console, but one rumored price now circulating has it pegged at $299.

We are quickly speeding towards the holiday shopping season, and the expected fall release of the latest Nintendo console, the Wii U.  While the Japanese company has been taking every opportunity to show off the hardware for over a year now, there is still been no information in the way of pricing information.  According to a new rumor obtained by GameTrailers through “certain channels” that the price will be $299.

This pricing makes some sense considering the technology being added to the tablet-like controllers, but it could also be a barrier to success for the respected company.  While the original Wii may not have satisfied hard core gamers, its lower price allowed for more people to take a chance on it, and that led to huge sales and shortages for a quite some time.

While the $299 price may make sense, it could also keep Nintendo from enjoying similar success as it saw the last time out.
