Virgin Mobile took the wraps off of the PCD Chaser on Friday, a relatively low-end Android smartphone that’s available for $79.99 without a contract. The Chaser features a 3.2-inch display, a 3-megapixel camera and an 800MHz processor. Oddly, it also runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is now three generations old behind Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. We’re guessing this is due to the relatively low hardware specs that were employed in order to keep the price affordable.
The Chaser will be available from national retailers beginning in September, although you can purchase it online now.
