Instagram announced on Thursday that its community has reached 80 million users. The photo-centric social network, which originally launched for the iPhone in October, 2010, has since expanded to Android devices and its users have shared nearly 4 billion photos from all around the globe. Including under water.
In fact, the social network is so popular now that even Time Magazine is asking for submissions
Back in April, Facebook announced that it was acquiring the photo sharing company for $1 billion. The buyout is currently under review by the Federal Trade Commission, which is typical protocol for deals in excess of $66 million. As long as the FTC doesn’t find any issues, the deal should go through as planned. However, the investigation could possibly add an additional year to Facebook’s original plans.
