Facebook Reportedly Working with HTC on Own Smartphone, Due in 2013

Facebook is reportedly working with HTC on developing its own smartphone, which is expected to hit the market during the middle of 2013. Bloomberg said both firms had originally hoped to release the device by the end of this year but “pushed back the timetable to give HTC more time to work on other products.”

The social network is also reportedly working on a “modified operating system,” with former Apple engineers. We’re guessing Facebook will use Android and will apply its own custom skin, just like Amazon did with the Kindle Fire. HTC certainly has enough experience building its own Android overlays and its Sense 4.0 user interface is currently one of the most robust on the market.

HTC has already released smartphones with a focus on Facebook – one example is the HTC Status on AT&T — but it was a low-end device with a simple Facebook button that allowed users to quickly post photos or messages to the social network. This endeavor sounds much more in-depth.
