Metal Gear has been going strong for 25 years now, and Kojima Productions is celebrating the anniversary. A Famitsu cover by Yoji Shinkawa, a series of stylish shirts, anniversary events and more mark the occasion. The biggest news, though, came out of an interview with series producer and visionary Hideo Kojima at the Sony PlayStation.Blog.
After waxing nostalgic about the Metal Gear series’ various incarnations over the years, Kojima had some news about the long-discussed but never-shown Fox Engine.
Kojima said in the interview that the Fox Engine is “nearly finished,” but that it had to be created alongside a game for practical purposes. It was originally meant for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Kojima explained, but that is instead being handled by Platinum Games on another engine altogether.
Kojima said that “although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do… on August 30th in Japan to be more specific.”
Will the unveiling of the engine come along with the announcement of Metal Gear Solid 5, or something else entirely? Metal Gear fans have just over a month to wait.
