Yahoo’s former head of marketing Elisa Steele has joined Skype as the company’s chief marketing officer. Steele originally left her post at Yahoo back in December, where she worked under former CEO Carol Bartz, long before Marissa Mayer was named as the company’s new chief executive officer. AllThingsD said Steele will also serve as a corporate vice president of Microsoft, which purchased Skype in May, and will report to Skype President Tony Bates.
Skype is becoming a much larger part of Microsoft’s overall product strategy. The company is expected to integrate Skype tightly into its Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system for video chat and we imagine it will play a larger role in Windows 8, too.
