During Apple’s fiscal third quarter earnings call, Tim Cook said that Apple sold 1.3 million Apple TV units during the quarter, which represents a stunning 173% increase over the same quarter of last year. Apple has also sold 4 million units overall during the fiscal year so far, but said the device is still more of a “hobby” for the firm because it’s sales aren’t’ as great as the iPhone, iPad or even the iPod.
Apple TV is a “hobby still, but we continue to pull strings to see where it takes us,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said. “We’re not one to keep around projects that we don’t beleive in. There’s a ton of people here that are believes in Apple TV.”
The latest rumors have suggested that Apple is working on developing its own Siri-powered HDTVs.
