The iPhone 5’s new 19-pin dock connector doesn’t mean all your Apple gear will be obsolete. Take a deep breath, easy. According to iMore, which first reported back in February that the iPhone would move to the smaller design, Apple will offer a dock connector “that will let [the iPhone] work with many of the accessories designed for the old 30-pin dock connector.”
You can probably continue using your insanely opulent $30,000 dock.
“We haven’t heard if [the adapter] will be included in the box along with the iPhone 5, or will only be sold separately, but either way, come October, you’ll be able to get a new-to-old dock adapter from Apple,” iMore said, citing its “original sources.”
Apple’s current 30-pin connection has been in use since 2003, so it’s about time the company moves ahead and pushes its technology forward. Sure, customers will kick and cry and scream, but it’s a necessary move in order for the Cupertino company to move on.
We’re not far off from a potential announcement, or even the iPhone 5’s release. Until then, rest assured that the company will likely offer an adapter to take the sting out of the transition to the future.
